Unlike the timeless 5-star Christmas and Halloween classics, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving falls short. Here the gang has been transplanted from the small-town Midwest with its dark, cold fall and winters to some suburban-type setting where people can walk around in shorts in late-November.
Instead of the earnest adult-like children, we get an attempt at early-70s hip wisecracking. Further severely dating the show to 1973 is the soundtrack, typified by the horrid jazzy blues vocal number "Little Birdy" and a fight snoopy has with an animated lawn chair (segment is total filler).
The voiceovers are distracting too. Although, the actors who did the Christmas and Halloween specials were certainly well into adolescents by the time the Thanksgiving special was made, there was not even an attempt to retain any similarity when hiring the new actors (with the exception of Linus, who was voiced by the brother of the kid who did the Christmas and Halloween specials). They also sound a bit older and (perhaps as a result?)are much more wooden in their delivery.
That being said, there aren't very many Thanksgiving specials out there and it does give a short history of the holiday. It will certainly give the kids something to watch for 25 minutes during halftime.
But if you are expecting the sincerity and magic of the Christmas and Halloween specials, you will be disappointed.
I am 25 years old. I loved this movie as a kid. I watched it over and over again. I just ordered it for my 7 year old son with the hopes that he will like it as much as I did. I is a funny and stupid movie, but well worth it for the kids to watch. I highly recommend this movie for anyone between the ages of 5-13 years old.
James Dean was the first selection for the role. His first it would have been after "GIANT".
Need we say more??
Great movie.

The Keep is one of those lesser known horror movies that is quite successful in creating a supernatural atmosphere and virtually mesmerizes the viewer. The acting is superb, the music is haunting, and the visuals are exciting to watch. The scenes involving Gabriel Byrne and Jorgen Prochnow are the best that either actor has ever done in film. I strongly agree with others that this film should be released on dvd with extra footage. Even if Paramount charged double the normal price for such a product, I am certain that they would make more than enough profit from all the horror fans out there. Let's keep on bugging Paramount, people, then maybe they will get the hint sooner rather than later!
For those being so critical of the American movie producers let me say that the blame for the fictional version of Jeannine Deckers life lies directly on Fichermont convent. The only way the film could be made was if it bore no resemblance to the real life of Sr. Luc Gabriel. The true story of Jeannine Deckers' life will be out this year, which includes the tale of how this movie was produced. Watch my web site for a release date.

This movie was shown to ex-POW's by our congenial government. It was supposed to be a kind of deprogramming, a "welcome-back-to-USA-pop-culture" sort of thing. The ex-POW's were fed some psychedelic mushrooms, strapped to an arm chair with tattered upholstery, and made to watch this Jay Leno movie from the eighties. I know what you're thinking: "but heh, I thought most of the POW's came back in the late seventies, at the latest!" Well, it seems that you've caught me in a horrible, horrible lie; and I must own up to my mendacity. Would it appease you if I were to contribute dough to some charitable cause? Here ...(sounds of scribbling on a blank check), I'll give something to that American Indian College Fund thang.
Unfortuneately these "collectors" would not be complaining if they only new half of when ,why and where this movie was produced and released.........it was NEVER supposed to be released as The Sound of Music was being released in the same week. Also Florence Hendersons 1st ever singing review. Rhis movie ONLY a collector...for real collect buffs, its never been graded or even edited. Be happy with this original that you have as there are soooo many copies of that out there and even then they are VERY few and far between......... For us OLD folks these types of movies are all we have left of our good memories...... Please dont spoil it for others..... Respectfully Submitted.
